Marilyn St Clair is an artist who works primarily
in pastels. She resides in Oroville,CA. She graduated from high school
in Fresno, CA.
Shortly after the WWII years she became a
registered nurse at Fresno General Hospital.
At that time art took a back seat to more
practical occupations, which included marrying and raising a family.
She did manage some art courses at Scripps
College in Claremont, CA.
A 1971 move to Fremont,CA
provided her with a chance to advance her art education. An AA degree
from Ohlone Community College was followed by a BA and MFA from Cal
State San Jose.
In 1981 the St. Clairs moved to Oroville, CA
to escape the hurried crowded life of the city. While serving as office
manager for her husband Dr. Donald St. Clair, she finally found time to
do some serious painting.
She has worked in many mediums but eventually found
that pastel was her favorite. Working from photographs taken with a
digital camera she can then manipulate them with Photoshop for the
desired image.
Marilyn is a studio artist primarily but
does enjoy working in Plein Aire on occasion.
Art is a continual learning process so study with such masters as Albert
Handel, Richard McKinley, Daniel Greene and Ben Konis have been
important in the pursuit of her art.
Marilyn has received numerous awards and many one
man shows.
But her favorite achievement was attaining
Signature Status in the Pastel Society of the West Coast.
Recent awards (2007) include “Best of Show”
in Arkansas Annual Exhibition, “The Terry Ludwig” award at the Chicago
Pastel Society Exhibition and the “Canson, Inc” award at the Connecticut
Pastel’s show Renaissance in Pastel. |
